As we know, art is an important part of culture. It can be used to inspire, to teach, just to gussy things up a little. Some artists are more popular than others, some are more respected even if they aren't very popular. Some see their art become representative of their country, whether they intended it to or not. I am not an art expert (I don't know art, but I know what I like, as they say), but there are a couple of artists who seem like representatives of their place to me. I dare you to convince me otherwise. Unsurprisingly, one is of my own country, Norman Rockwell. Is he really representative? Is he The Great American Illustrator? https://www.photographize.co/articles/normanrockwell/ Yeah, you might have been expecting George Herriman or even Bill Watterson, but sometimes things surprise you! The next one should be no surprise - Alfons Mucha. He of The Slav Epic. How could someone who creates a series with that title NOT be about representing his people? https://www.widewalls.ch/magazine/the-slav-epic-alphonse-mucha Finally, who gets to represent my country of residence? I used Dalí for the title image, but maybe there's a better candidate. Someone who showed joys and pains, who used an honest eye and hand to leave a visual record of who his compatriots were and what they were doing. Okay, he's not much of a surprise either: https://blog.artsper.com/en/a-closer-look/how-goya-changed-the-way-we-depict-war/ https://www.realacademiabellasartessanfernando.com/goya/goya-en-la-calcografia-nacional/desastres-de-la-guerra/ Of course, the world is more than three countries. Maybe your favorite artist is also a standard-bearer?
