Saturday Night Out with the Vancouver Symphony!

Details

The plan would be to get a few music lovers together to attend the Aretha: A Tribute show with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on the 29th of April. (EDIT: Time and date have always been correct above but I listed it as the 28th instead of the 29th in the description. This edit fixes my error.) The VSO website for the show is here: https://www.vancouversymphony.ca/event/aretha-a-tribute/ I'm planning this way ahead to permit time to confirm attendance and collect funds so that I may purchase a group of tickets. Estimated ticket cost will not be more than $80 per seat, which is the current actual cost of lower balcony seating. Payment will need to be made to me by INTERAC transfer by April 1st to reserve a seat with the group. (I'll be purchasing the group tickets on April 2nd.) If you decide to join us after that point, I'll post the seat locations once acquired to make it easier for you to sit near the group if you so desire. Coffee before or after the show is a possibility as well, based on group consensus. Look forward to seeing you there!

Hi Sharon! Tickets will be purchased April 2nd, assuming everyone has sent me their payment by then. Feel free to send any INTERAC payments ($80) to edhensley(..at..)gmail.com anytime on or before April 1st. Thanks! And I'm super excited for it, too! Capathia has an AMAZING voice!

Also, if we wanted to meet up before (or after) the show, it doesn't have to be coffee. If people want to do dinner/drinks/appies somewhere I'm absolutely open to that. Give us some ideas and lets form a consensus!

Sounds good - sorry I thought you were trying to get a group deal and then let us know the price - I will forward to you

Group discounts don't take effect until you want to buy at least 10 tickets. "Estimated ticket cost will not be more than $80 per seat, which is the current actual cost of lower balcony seating." If I can swing a discount for that section, I will. I'll make sure that I purchase at the senior rate for you, whatever that is, and refund you the balance. :)

To clarify, I'm looking at purchasing tickets in the "Front Balcony" section, and either "Left Centre" or "Right Centre" (Section Two) within.

Hey Ed, am open to meeting before 7:30 or after 9... I'm not as familiar with downtown options as I was years ago.. but happy to meet somewhere on that date... however, if we just do the concert, that is just fine as well... I can meet at a coffee place too, if that's what everyone wants

Awesome. There's nothing stopping me from hanging out before or afterwards. I was thinking about taking a walk up Davie to the village after to see what other mischief I might be able to make. :D Anyone else in the group might want to do dinner before or hang out afterwards?

Looking at the menus - I personally am not a meat eater or cheese so French is out for me - I’m leaning toward a pub menu

I'm going to be purchasing the tickets this evening. Right now I have 3 tickets to buy; one each for Natalie, Lee, and myself. Sharon, please let me know if you're still interested in sitting with the group. Thanks!

Natalie, I'm open as well. Not sure what people like to eat, but there are several restaurants that I enjoy in all the varying price ranges. Perhaps we could all do dinner somewhere before the show?

Natalie

Sounds good Ed. Could you make some suggestion for a dinner place and I'll see I can join you? I'm pretty flexible about food and cuisines.

Hi Ed is it too late to etransfer you? Sorry I was volunteering today

Your senior discount saved you about $5, Sharon. $70 + $3.50 (service fee) +5% GST = $77.18 total. edhensley(..at..)gmail.com

My go-to pre-symphony dinner restaurant choice is Chambar on Beatty St, but I recognize that this choice might not fit everyone's budget or style. A good choice in a lower price range might be Peaceful Restaurant at 602 Seymour St. If we just wanted a pub vibe, there are a handful of good Irish pubs all along Granville St, many of whom have a full restaurant menu. It really does depend on how the group is feeling. Those are my "low-hanging-fruit" suggestions though. :)

Thanks for posting choices Ed. Happy to meet before or after the concert. I'll view this chat within that week to see people's preferences.

I’m open to anywhere before the show

For ease of reference: Chambar: https://www.chambar.com/menus/dinner/ Peaceful: https://www.peacefulrestaurant.com/shop/Seymour/5 The other Pub options that I recommend are: Donnellan's, The Ox, and The Morrissey. They're all within walking distance and all roughly the same pub experience. Open to other suggestions as well!

Lee

All of the options look fine, Ed. Im cool with whatever option you end up deciding upon. 🙏

Link to Ed.'s profile

Ed.

Looks like the only one with a strong preference is Sharon, so let's pick a pub with vegan food! Sharon, if you wanted to take a look at their menus and see which one has the best options for you that would be great!

Link to Sharon's profile

Sharon

Oh it’s ok I don’t want to be a bother - I’m not vegan - any of the pubs would be good I’m sure

Link to Ed.'s profile

Ed.

Sorry about the misclassification. It's a lazy, shorthand way for me to say "doesn't eat meat or dairy". Let's do Donnellan's at 6:30 then unless anyone has an objection? They might even have a band playing that evening. :)

See you at Donnellans. Thx for arranging, Ed. 🙏
